Artemis Africa

Protecting Congo’s Forests, Empowering Communities

A Congolese-led organisation bridging conservation and community development in the heart of Africa. Through sustainable energy, beekeeping enterprises, and ecotourism, we’re creating lasting change in the Congo Basin.

Conservation Through Community

4 Years Of Impact in Eastern DRC

Founded in 2021 in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Artemis Africa stands at the intersection of conservation and community empowerment. We believe that protecting the Congo Basin’s irreplaceable forests and endangered mountain gorillas cannot succeed without improving the lives of the people who share their habitat.
Our approach is simple yet powerful: provide communities with sustainable alternatives to forest exploitation, empower women through economic opportunities, and invite the world to discover Congo’s natural treasures through responsible ecotourism.

Pillars of Sustainable Development

OUR PROGRAMMES

Sustainable Energy

Reducing deforestation and conflict through clean cooking solutions. We’ve trained 600 people in clay ball production, avoiding 4,000 tonnes of wood cutting annually and creating viable income for displaced communities near Virunga and Kahuzi Biega National Parks.

Osiris Beekeeping

Building sustainable livelihoods through community beekeeping in DRC & Rwanda. Our connected hive initiative, the first in sub-Saharan Africa, supports 50+ trained beekeepers, produces over 100kg of organic honey annually, and reduces pressure on ecosystems.

Conservation

Protecting the Congo Basin’s extraordinary biodiversity. Through reforestation, anti-deforestation initiatives, and wildlife monitoring using bioacoustic technology, we safeguard critical habitats for mountain gorillas, Congo peafowl, and bonobos.

Visit Congo

Authentic, responsible travel experiences that benefit conservation and communities. From mountain gorilla trekking to cultural immersion with indigenous Batwa people, every journey directly supports local development.

DUAL MISSION

Humanitarian Mission & Social Enterprise

As a registered NGO, Artemis Africa addresses urgent humanitarian and environmental challenges in conflict-affected eastern DRC. We provide sustainable alternatives to forest exploitation, support displaced communities, and protect endangered species through community-led conservation.

Our beekeeping enterprise produces premium organic honey from mountain gorilla habitat, whilst our clean energy programme creates marketable balls of clay. Revenue from these social enterprises and Visit Congo ecotourism directly funds our humanitarian programmes, a self-sustaining model for lasting change.
